Water for Elephants is a theatrical musical adaptation of Sara Gruen’s novel that combines an original folk/Americana score, circus arts, puppetry and acrobatics to tell a Depression-era love story set within a traveling circus. The touring production presents large-scale spectacle — including aerial silks, acrobatic lifts, juggling and a signature elephant puppet — on the proscenium stage of the Hollywood Pantages Theatre in Los Angeles. The piece features a book by Rick Elice with music and lyrics by PigPen Theatre Co., and it follows a creative path from a regional premiere to a Broadway run before mounting a national tour.
